Marlene has been a sushi chef for the last 29 years. Her parents had the first Japanese restaurant in Salt Lake. Growing up in the restaurant industry, she vowed to never set foot in a restaurant again. She obtained four degrees in Business and Marketing and Management and worked in the advertising world for 10 years, however, she always supplemented her down time working as a sushi chef in Park City at Ichiban Sushi.
Marlene soon found that she had more fun making sushi. So she went into the business full time. She worked for Ginza in downtown Salt Lake for over 10 years and Ichiban Sushi in Park City and Salt Lake for 15 years. She then decided to make the big move to own her own restaurant. She was recently wooed into going to work full-time as a sushi sous chef at Kyoto Japanese Restaurant.
She has been instructing sushi lovers for the last 15 years – and we’re excited to have her teach sushi here at the Salt Lake Culinary Center!
